§ Mr. CarlisleTraining courses for probation officers are provided by universities polytechnics and other colleges of further education and at the Home Office Training Centre, which has three intakes a year. Altogether, 547 probation students were accepted for professional training in 1972, from a total of about 4,500 applicants.
