§ Mr. Eadieasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will list the connection charges for gas and electricity for new dwellings; and if he will make a statement on the appeal procedure that consumers have in relation to the charges.
§ Mr. EmeryThe electricity and gas industries have agreed to implement the majority recommendations of the Monopolies Commission. This means that in normal cost cases connection charges for electricity will be in the region of £40 to £45; and for gas nil. The charges will not vary with connected loads. Electricity or gas consumers may make representations to the relevant consultative council on any matter affecting supply in their area, and this would include connection charges.
