§ Mr. Ian GilmourIt is not the policy of Her Majesty's Government to comment on particular items of defence equipment which may or may not be sold to particular countries. The general policy of sales of military equipment to the parties to the Arab-Israeli dispute remains unchanged. Requests for arms from the countries concerned will be examined on their merits, and we will not permit the sale of any item which, in our view, would significantly alter the military balance or increase the risk of a further outbreak of hostilities in the area.
