Langford-Holtasked the Minister of State for Defence whether he will alter the rules for entry into the armed forces of the United Kingdom so that citizens of the Republic of Ireland cease to be treated as British citizens, but are treated as foreign citizens, in accord with the status of the Irish Republic as an independent foreign country.
§ Mr. Ian GilmourNo. The rules take account of the special position of citizens of the Republic of Ireland in the United Kingdom under Section 3 of the British Nationality Act 1948 and the provisions of the Ireland Act 1949.
