asked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) what research he is sponsoring into the problem of the shattering of windscreens in motor cars;

(2) what steps he is taking to reduce the number of traffic accidents caused by the shattering of windscreens.

There is no evidence to suggest that accidents in significant numbers are occurring as a result of the shattering of windscreens.
