HC Deb 22 November 1972 vol 846 c395W
40. Mr. Strang

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what discussions he has had with the British Steel Corporation regarding the contributions which the steel industry will make to the Scottish economy over the next decade.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

I recently had an informal discussion with the Chairman of the British Steel Corporation about the corporation's strategic plans for the next decade which are now before the Government for examination. The impact of these proposals on the Scottish economy featured in our discussions.

Contrary to reports in the Press, no Government approval has yet been given to the corporation's plans.
