§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will give an assurance that, in accordance with the wage and salary freeze, Sir Alan Marre will not receive any increase in salary when he takes on his additional duties as Health Service Commissioner.
§ Sir K. JosephSir Alan Marre cannot take on these duties until the necessary legislation has been approved. Clause 32(4) of the National Health Service Reorganisation Bill would however prevent an increase in salary solely on account of the extension of duties to which the hon. Member refers.
