asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) how many European, Commonwealth, United States, Latin American, Soviet, African, Arab, Israeli, Japanese, Chinese, Taiwanese and Asian, respectively, diplomats accredited to the Court of St. James's have claimed diplomatic immunity in respect of criminal and motoring offences, respectively, in each of the last 10 years for which records are available; how many and what percentage of such criminal offences involved theft and violence, respectively; and how many of such motoring offences were for obstruction or other parking offences;

(2) how many representatives of the European Economic Community have claimed diplomatic immunity in respect of criminal offences in each of the last 10 years for which records are available; and how many and what percentage of such offences involved theft and violence, respectively;

(3) how many representatives of the European Economic Community have claimed diplomatic immunity in respect of motoring offences in each of the last 10 years for which records are available; and how many of such motoring offences were for obstruction or other parking offences;

(4) what is the total estimated sum owed to the Exchequer by persons or organisations having diplomatic immunity, in respect of parking and in respect of other motoring offences, for each of the past five years;

(5) how many representatives of the United Nations and of other international organisations have claimed diplomatic immunity in respect of criminal offences in each of the last 10 years for which records are available; and how many and what percentage of such offences involved theft and violence, respectively;

(6) how many representatives of the United Nations and of other international organisations have claimed diplomatic immunity in respect of motoring offences in each of the last 10 years for which records are available; and how many of such motoring offences were for obstruction or other parking offences.

The information asked for is not readily available for each of the last 10 years, but I am obtaining details of cases reported by the police during the period 1967–71 and shall write to the hon. and learned Member.
