§ Mr. Dudley SmithAt 9th October the rate of unemployment in the Birmingham travel-to-work area was 4.2 per cent. The number of people registered as unemployed in the area was 27,506–21,922 men, 1,413 boys, 3,481 women and 690 girls—including 1,370 who were temporarily stopped.
