Mr. Sillars

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many unemployed males and females in Scotland have now exhausted their entitlement to earnings-related supplement; and how many males and females in Scotland have exhausted their entitlement to unemployment benefit.

Mr. Dean

On 7th August, 1972, the latest date for which figures are available, 35,351 males and 3,427 females registered as unemployed in Scotland had exhausted their entitlement to flat-rate unemployment benefit.

The figures for earnings-related supplement are not immediately available, but I will supply them to the hon. Member as soon as possible.
