§ 26. Mr. Blenkinsopasked the Secretary of State for Employment what steps he is taking to encourage the improvement of low wage rates especially amongst women workers in the waterproof clothing and related industries on Tyneside.
§ Mr. Chichester-ClarkMinimum rates in most branches of the clothing industry are determined by wages councils and the effectiveness of these arrangements is currently being examined by the Commission on Industrial Relations. Progress towards equal pay will of course help to improve the wage rates of women workers generally.
