HC Deb 06 November 1972 vol 845 c64W
Mr. William Edwards

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) who was consulted about the suitability of Tonfannau Camp as a camp for the Ugandan Asians; when this consultation took place; which local authorities were consulted; and when;

(2) what consultation took place with the Merioneth County Planning Authority prior to the change of use of Tonfannau Camp from a military establishment into a civilian residential establishment; and where this consultation took place.

Mr. Lane

The local authorities concerned were informed on 28th September that Tonfannau Camp was to be used as a resettlement centre. Normal consultation was not possible in the emergency created by the arrival of large numbers of refugees.
