asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, taking 1960 as base year, what has been the percentage rise in the retail cost of coal, oil and gas up to the most convenient date for which figures are available.

Between 1960 and September, 1972 the indices for coal and gas prices used in compiling the Retail Prices Index rose by 111 and 58 per cent. respectively. Over the same period the published prices of standard grade burning oil and gas oil for domestic heating purposes rose by 57 per cent. and 55 per cent. respectively.
