HC Deb 26 May 1972 vol 837 c548W
Mr. Rowlands

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many jobs have been created per annum by industrial movement into South Wales in each year since 1959.

Mr. Anthony Grant

I have been asked to reply.

I regret that information in the form requested is not available, but the total number now employed by firms which have moved into South Wales since 1st January, 1959, is about 24,000.

Mr. Rowlands

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many jobs have been lost in South Wales per annum since 1959.

Mr. Dudley Smith

I have been asked to reply.

Precise information about jobs gained and jobs lost is not available, but net changes can be obtained by comparing the levels of employment from year to year. The following table shows this information for the whole of Wales. Estimates are not readily available for South Wales alone.
