HC Deb 24 May 1972 vol 837 c370W
40. Mr. Strang

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what effect his policies have had on the level of unemployment in the building industry; and if he will now introduce additional measures in this field.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

The effects of the measures introduced by the Government to counter the high level of unemployment both in the building industry and elsewhere are becoming clear. I welcome the reduction shown by last week's figures in unemployment in the building industry in Scotland. The various schemes launched by the Government, together with the increased public and private house-building which we have stimulated, promise considerably more employment, but I am ready to consider any further measures which would be relevant and effective.
