HC Deb 24 May 1972 vol 837 c389W
Sir H. Harrison

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what he estimates the population of the combined counties of Suffolk will be in 1981; and what percentage increase that figure will represent over the population of 1961 and 1971.

Mr. Graham Page

The Registrar General's population estimates are broken down into statistical areas which do not coincide with county boundaries. The best estimate my Department can make of the population of the existing geographical counties of East and West Suffolk in 1961 and 1971 is 481,000 and 554,000, respectively. No reliable figure can be given for the same areas for 1981 until the estimates based on the 1971 Census become available which it is hoped will be within the next year.
