HC Deb 24 May 1972 vol 837 cc380-1W
55. Mr. Sydney Chapman

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he is satisfied with the progress being made with regard to tree planting schemes and landscaping adjacent to new and existing motorways and other roads under construction; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Speed

No. At present over a million trees and shrubs are planted each year on motorways and trunk roads. But we are taking special steps next year to plant more trees to better effect, not only alongside highways but elsewhere in both town and country.
