HC Deb 24 May 1972 vol 837 cc398-9W
Mr. Eadie

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many jobs he has now been informed by employers will be lost to Scotland in the current year through closure and redundancy; and how many will be gained.

Mr. Dudley Smith

According to information so far received by my Department, about 14,000 jobs will be lost to Scotland in the current year through closure and redundancy.

The number of jobs arising in Scotland this year will depend upon the response of industry and commerce to the measures the Government have taken to stimulate the economy and the measures now before the House in the Industry Bill.
