My right hon. and learned Friend the Secretary of State for Wales informs me that on the same date 2,603 such children were in the care of local authorities in Wales.

§ Mr. AlisonI am sending the hon. Member copies of the regulations which require the managers of nursing homes 327W registered under the Public Health Act, 1936, and old persons' homes registered under the National Assistance Act, 1948, to provide reasonable accommodation and adequate lighting and heating. Responsibility for enforcing the regulations rests with the registering local authorities and not with my right hon. Friend.
§ Mr. Leadbitterasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what reports he has received of the treatment of old persons in private nursing and old people's homes, the staffing conditions, the rates of pay and hours worked by staff, and the practices adopted by the proprietors of such homes in respect of the Department's regulations and inspection.
