HC Deb 11 May 1972 vol 836 c431W
Mr. Pounder

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will make a statement about his plans for channelling economic aid to Northern Ireland.

Mr. David Howell:

The Northern Ireland economy is receiving urgent attention. The Government will continue to implement the 1970–75 Development Plan and the further acceleration of investment announced by the Minister of Finance at Stormont in January, 1972.

The massive expansion scheme of the Harland and Wolff Shipyard and the scheme of rate grants for the city centres of Belfast, Londonderry and Newry, announced on 4th May, are indications of the Government's concern and determination to take whatever measures it considers to be necessary.
