§ Mr. AlisonWe have received four letters since June, 1970. In replies it has been explained that anyone aged 16 or over who cannot afford to pay prescription charges is entitled to exemption or 299W refund. Where exemption cannot be claimed the prepayment certificate is available for those who need frequent prescriptions.

Mr. David Steelasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will estimate the annual cost of amending the National Health Service (Charges for Drugs and Appliances) Regulations so as to grant a one-year exemption from prescription charges to any woman whose child is either still-born or dies within the first year of birth.
