§ 89. Mr. St. John-Stevasasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he will make a statement of British policy on the relationship between the enlarged European Community and the countries of Eastern Europe.
Mr. Anthony BoyleMy right hon. Friend the Prime Minister made clear our views on this subject in his speech at the signature of the Treaty of Accession on 22nd January. We wish for better relations with the States of Eastern Europe, including the Soviet Union.
§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he will state for the latest convenient date the total number of rules, regulations, and directives issued by the European Economic Community since the date when the last batch of such orders was published and made available to Members of Parliament; and how many of these have been printed in the English language and are available to hon. Members.
§ Mr. RipponBetween 10th November, 1971, and 31st March, 1972, the Corm-342W munities made approximately 1,300 instruments of secondary legislation which have been published in the legislation section of the Journal Officiel. The majority of these will expire before Britain joins the Communities. Those which will apply after our accession to the Communities are being translated as part of the pre-accession series of English texts of Community secondary legislation. English texts of 21 such instruments, published by Her Majesty's Stationery Office on Friday, 5th May, have been made available to hon. Members through the Vote Office and placed in the Library of the House. A continuing flow of texts will be published as they become available.
