HC Deb 09 May 1972 vol 836 c298W
21. Mrs. Knight

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what steps is he taking to overcome the shortage of experienced doctors in the casualty departments of hospitals in Birmingham and the West Midlands area.

Mr. Alison

More participation by consultants and improved career opportunities for young doctors are required to overcome the staffing problems in these departments nationally. The Birmingham Regional Hospital Board has recently appointed three new consultants in this field; another post has just been approved, and a further proposal is under consideration.
