HC Deb 05 May 1972 vol 836 cc218-9W
Mr. Ellis

asked the Attorney-General on how many occasions in 1971 and in 1970 cases were transferred from courts of summary jurisdiction to higher courts by the granting of bills of indictment in each of the police authority areas in Wales.

The Attorney-General:

Exact figures are not readily available. I am aware of three cases where applications for a voluntary bill of indictment were granted in 1971. In one of these cases, which was tried at Mold, several police authorities were concerned and the Director of Public Prosecutions prosecuted; in the remaining cases the prosecutor was the Dyfed-Powis Police Authority. I have no knowledge of any cases where an application for a voluntary bill was made in 1970.
