HC Deb 03 May 1972 vol 836 c160W
Mr. Selwyn Gummer

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether the Government will make special vouchers for settlement in the United Kingdom available to United Kingdom passport holders resident in India.

Mr. Maudling:

The Government have reviewed the position of United Kingdom passport holders in India and have decided to make a limited issue of special vouchers for settlement in this country. The vouchers will be issued in accordance with priorities determined from time to time by our High Commissioner in Delhi. With effect from today, the annual global allocation of special vouchers will be increased from 3,000 to 3,500.

At the same time the Government have decided to reduce the number of Commonwealth citizens entering this country to take up employment, and my hon. Friend the Minister of State, Department of Employment, is today circulating in the OFFICIAL REPORT a Written Answer giving particulars of changes in the employment voucher scheme.
