§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Lord President of the Council to what extent Great Britain's entry into the European Economic Community on present known terms will affect the position of local and public authorities sponsoring private Bills where such Bills may conflict with the rules and regulations of the Community; and to what extent such local and public authorities powers on sponsoring private Bills will have to be adjusted to Community law.
163W
§ Mr. R. Carr:The powers of local and public authorities regarding the sponsorship of private Bills will not require adjustment after EEC entry. In considering private bills after entry Parliament will, however, have to take account of the need to avoid any action inconsistent with the Treaty providing for United Kingdom membership of the Communities.
