HC Deb 02 May 1972 vol 836 c88W
Mr. O'Halloran

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many persons have been declared redundant in the Greater London area since June, 1970; and what types of employment were involved.

Mr. Chichester-Clark:

Notifications received by my Department covering the Greater London area since June, 1970, indicate that about 120,000 workpeople were involved in redundancies. Within the manufacturing sector the areas where the majority had been employed were electrical engineering, food, drink and tobacco, mechanical engineering, paper, printing and publishing, chemicals and clothing and footwear; outside this sector areas mainly affected were construction, distributive trades, miscellaneous services and transport and communication.
