Mr. Meacherasked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many units of sheltered housing accommodation are currently being provided by each local authority in England and Wales, and in each case how many units this amounts to per 1,000 population aged 65 years of age or over in that local authority area.
§ Mr. Eyre:The statistics for which the hon. Member asks are not available. In 1971, however, almost one-third of all new house building carried out by local authorities and new town corporations consisted of one-bedroom accommodation, most of which is likely to have been intended for occupation by old people.
