§ Mr. James Johnsonasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if, in the interest of conservation of endangered species, he will now control imports of the skins of the tiger, leopard, including the snow and clouded leopard, and the cheetah.
§ Mr. Anthony GrantWith effect from midnight 27th March, imports of furs, skins, rugs, and coverlets obtained from the tiger and the snow and clouded leopards will be prohibited. Imports of such goods obtained from all other leopards and the cheetah will continue to be permitted but only where we are satisfied that they have been legally exported from the countries of origin in accordance with local conservation requirements.
