HC Deb 15 March 1972 vol 833 c99W
Sir J. Gilmour

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) how much money is raised each year by local authorities which provide a waste paper recovery service in Scotland; what estimate he has made of the maximum amount obtainable from participation by all local authorities; and if he will make a statement;

(2) how many local authorities in Scotland provide a waste paper recovery service.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

This information is not held centrally, but a survey in 1969 showed that about 30 Scottish local authorities then collected about 22,000 tons of paper and cardboard. I have made no estimate of the kind mentioned. The extent to which local authorities collect waste paper depends mainly on the demand for it and on the price obtainable, which vary from time to time.
