49. Mr. Tom Boardman

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will list the 20 countries to which the United Kingdom exports most goods and state which of these have changed or made a decision to change to the metric system.

The 20 countries to which we export most are as follows:

Countries already using metric units:

German Federal Republic, Netherlands, France, Sweden, Belgium, Italy, Switzerland, Denmark, Norway, Japan, Spain, Finland, India.

Countries currently in course of changing to metric units:

Irish Republic, South Africa, Australia, Canada, Nigeria, New Zealand.

Country whose administration proposes to change:

United States.
