asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many retired civil servants are, at present employed in Government Departments and in organisations for which the Government is financially responsible.

THE LORD PRIVY SEAL (EARL JELLICOE)

The total number of retired civil servants at present employed in Government Departments is estimated at 20,000–21,000. Most of these are industrial civil servants or are employed in the more junior non-industrial positions. No information is available about retired civil servants employed outside Government Departments.
