The 13 schools marked with an asterisk have been approved for replacement in building programmes up to and including 1973–74. The authority's proposals for replacing or remodelling the remaining 28 schools are not yet finalised; progress will depend on the allocations received in future building programmes and, in many instances, on the publication of statutory notices. It is not possible, therefore, to say at this stage which of the remaining schools will be replaced and in which programme year. But it is the Government's hope that the elimination of pre-1903 primary schools, for which there will be a continuing need, should be in sight at the end of five years from 1972–73.
