HC Deb 02 March 1972 vol 832 c168W
85 and 36. Dame Patricia Hornsby-Smith

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) what security checks are made by the Immigration Department on doctors and nurses from overseas accepted by the National Health Service for employment in this country;

(2) what security checks are made into applications from residents overseas to enter British universities or whether their entry is automatic if they obtain a place.

Mr. Sharples

People who are subject to immigration control are not admitted to the United Kingdom if there are grounds for believing that admission would be contrary to the interests of national security.

Dame Patricia Hornsby-Smith

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many immigration officers are employed in his Department and how many of these are women.
