§ Mr. David Priceasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is his estimate of the cost to the Exchequer of placing the whole burden of the educational services upon the Exchequer and of the resultant savings to the total of rates.
§ Mr. HigginsOn the basis of relevant expenditure agreed with representatives of the local authorities, expenditure by local authorities on education and school meals and milk during the current year will amount to £2,541 million in Great Britain. The cost of transferring this to central government Votes and the resultant savings to the local rates would depend on what adjustments were made to the rate support grants.
