HL Deb 28 June 1972 vol 332 c978WA
LORD BALOGH

ask Her Majesty's Government:

How many boreholes were drilled altogether in the North Sea, and how many were dry.

THE EARL OF LIMERICK

So far, 400 wells have been drilled for petroleum on the United Kingdom Continental Shelf, 195 exploration wells and 205 appraisal and development wells. Of the 195 exploration wells, 29 contained significant quantities of oil or gas; 7 have been established as being in commercially viable fields.
