§ Mr. Skinnerasked the Lord President of the Council whether, in view of the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food's request to housewives to hold off the buying of beef, he has issued instructions to reduce beef purchases in the House of Commons.
Dr. BennettI have been asked to reply.
All beef prices have not risen equally. The more expensive cuts have risen the most but the cheaper cuts have risen very little. We have reduced our demands of the tormer and are ordering other meats whose prices have risen less; but the cheaper cuts continue to be in demand and are ordered accordingly.
