§ Mr. Michael Cocksasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many additional staff have been taken on by the Customs and Excise Department to deal with value added tax up to 16th June, 1972; and how many more additional staff it is anticipated will be recruited to deal with value added tax after this date.
§ Mr. HigginsApproximately 900 extra staff have been taken on up to 16th June, 1972. Some 5,000 further staff are being recruited and about 2,000 existing staff will become available for value added tax when purchase tax is abolished.
