HL Deb 20 June 1972 vol 332 cc217-8WA
LORD GARDINER

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many of the staff in the Ministry of Trade and Industry referred to in their Written Answer in the House of Commons on May 12, 1972, are engaged in reforming each of those branches of the law for which that Ministry is responsible.

LORD DRUMALBYN

There are a considerable number of staff in the Department of Trade and Industry whose duties include consideration of the reform of the existing law for which the Department is responsible. It is not possible to quote a precise figure, since the study of law reform is carried on by the officials concerned only as one part of their functions which include, for example, administration of existing legislation. Work is being actively pressed ahead in a number of fields and any resulting proposals will be presented to Parliament as they become ready.
