§ Mr. St. John-Stevasasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry whether, in view of the recent developments in regard to the slaughter of dogs to make fur coats and other fashionable wear, he will consider the introduction of a ban on imports of all dog skins into the United Kingdom.
§ Mr. EmeryI would not be justified in banning imports of dog skins in the absence of a similar ban on the supply of dog skins within the United Kingdom. It would not be in accordance with our obligations under the GATT to discriminate against imports in this way.
