§ 48. Mr. Loveridgeasked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is the estimated proportion of serving members of the Ulster Defence Regiment and the Royal Ulster Constabulary who are Roman Catholic.
§ Mr. David HowellNo records are kept of the religious denomination of members of the Royal Ulster Constabulary, but the Advisory Committee on Police in Northern Ireland reported in 1969 that Roman Catholics then constituted approximately 11 per cent. of the force. I am advised that the figure for the Ulster Defence Regiment is 5 per cent.
