Mr. Joel Barnett

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many redundancies in the textile industry have been announced in Lancashire since June, 1970; and if he will give the breakdown of these figures between the different travel-to-work areas.

Redundancies involving 17,797 workpeople in the textile industry have been notified to my Department in Lancashire between 1st June, 1970, and 26th May, 1972.

A breakdown of this figure by travel-to-work area is set out below.
