HC Deb 05 June 1972 vol 838 cc14-5W
Mr. Whitehead

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry whether the proposed integration of the Rolls-Royce (1971) Derby and Bristol engine divisions will commence before final agreement is reached on a price for the assets of Rolls-Royce Limited.

Mr. Onslow

The determination of the price by an independent expert seems unlikely to be made before the company implements the changes recently announced.

That is a matter for the board of Rolls-Royce (1971) Ltd.

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what consultations will be held with the trade unions involved, before the management of Rolls-Royce (1971) Limited embarks upon the bringing together of the Bristol and Derby engine divisions, announced on 22nd May, 1972.

Mr. Onslow

That is a matter for the board of Rolls-Royce (1971) Ltd.

Mr. Michael McNair-Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry how much financial assistance is being given to Rolls-Royce (1971) Limited to assist it with its various engine programmes; which engines are being supported; and what is the total amount of Government finance in each project.

Mr. Onslow

Government payments to Rolls-Royce for the launch costs of civil aero-engines are running at about £50 million a year. Virtually all of it is at present for the RB211—total launch cost and net production loss estimated at £195 million—and Olympus 593 included in the latest Concorde development estimate of £970 million. In the future there will also be payments for the M45H—total Government launching aid £11 million.
