§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry whether he will make a statement on his recent official visit to Japan; and to what extent during his visit he discussed the concern felt by British manufacturers of ball bearings at the appearance on the British market with subsidised Japanese bearings and analagous concern felt by those engaged in the photo-copying and electronics industries.

I am not aware that there is any evidence of subsidisation of Japanese ball bearing exports. My Department has not been a proached by producers of either photocopying equipment or photo-copying products.
