HC Deb 31 July 1972 vol 842 cc19-20W
72. Mr. Wall

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on his talks with the Maltese Prime Minister.

Sir Alec Douglas-Home

The Maltese Prime Minister paid an official visit to Britain from 27th to 29th July at the invitation of Her Majesty's Government. He had talks with my right lion. Friend the Prime Minister, my right hon. and noble Friend the Secretary of State for Defence, my hon. Friend the Chief Secretary to the Treasury and myself.

Mr. Mintoff and I had a wide-ranging and useful exchange of views on international problems, special attention being given to the Mediterranean area. We also reviewed bilateral relations between our two countries.

The visit also provided an opportunity for both sides to take stock of the arrangements for the use of military facilities in Malta in accordance with the agreement signed in London on 26th March.
