Mr. Sutcliffeasked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will seek powers to set up regional bodies with power to assemble information, plan ahead and co-ordinate and control development which will provide the aesthetic and social supervision required to prevent cities and towns being deprived by piecemeal erosion of character and cultural heritage.
§ Mr. AmeryNo. The protection of the character of cities and towns is in the first place a matter for the local planning authorities concerned in the exercise of their planning and development control powers.
