HC Deb 25 July 1972 vol 841 c269W
Mr. Luce

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment when he will announce decisions on the proposals to improve the A27 route between Chichester and Shoreham, following the study carried out by the County Surveyor of West Sussex County Council.

Mr. Speed

A scheme for an improved route between Chichester and Hammer-pot just north of Angmering is to be included in the Trunk Road Preparation Pool. Detailed planning and design work on the scheme on this section will now proceed, with a careful examination being made of the alternative merits of improving the existing A27 and the provision of an entirely new route.

An independent study will be commissioned into the possible corridor of an improved A27 route to the east of Hammerpot in the Worthing area. This route would connect with that currently under investigation between Brighton and Lewes. The consultants for the study will examine suggestions put forward by the local authorities involved.
