§ Mr. Goldingasked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he can now make a statement regarding injury cover for Post Office engineers who install telephones in their free time for chronically sick and disabled people.
§ Mr. DeanI am pleased to say that the Post Office has now agreed that240W where an engineer suffers an accident in the course of this voluntary work it will make ex gratia payments equivalent to the benefits which would have been payable under the Industrial Injuries Act if the work had been insurable. This is a very satisfactory outcome to a problem which has caused widespread concern and I am grateful to the Post Office for providing the solution.
