§ Mr. Eadieasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what reply he has sent the Trades Union Congress as a result of his meeting with its Steel Committee where it was proposed that a 209W special working party with representation from the Government, the British Steel Corporation and the unions should be set up to make recommendations for a solution to the problems of the steel industry.
§ Mr. Tom BoardmanAt the meeting the Steel Committee suggested that it would be helpful to examine the problems of manpower contraction in the steel industry on a tripartite basis, and I welcomed this as a constructive approach. I am now considering, on the basis of a letter I have had from the General Secretary of the TUC, how best to proceed.
