HL Deb 24 July 1972 vol 333 c1216WA
THE EARL OF MANSFIELD

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether in view of the case of R. v. Folkes, suitable instructions can be given to those concerned to ensure that when bail is granted a person does not remain in custody for a lengthy period because of difficulty in fulfilling the conditions of his bail, or for any other reason, without the knowledge of the court.

THE LORD CHANCELLOR

As my right honourable friend the Secretary of State for the Home Department has already announced, the existing procedures are being reviewed. Meanwhile, as an interim measure, the Court Service has been instructed that whenever a bail order is made in the Crown Court the appropriate court officers must ensure that there is no unjustifiable delay in implementing the order.

House adjourned at eight minutes before eleven o'clock.
